An interesting thought. Let's give our attention to God's 9 00:00:46.369 --> 00:00:52.560 word now and first John Three, verse nineteen. It's a very famous story, I'm so famous 25 00:02:12.509 --> 00:02:16.979 that I think it has found its way into just our general speech and culture. 26 00:02:17.780 --> 00:02:23.060 People will refer to one of the lines of this story even without maybe 27 00:02:23.180 --> 00:02:27.099 necessarily knowing it comes from the Bible, and that's that he who casts the 28 00:02:27.219 --> 00:02:32.689 first stone right. This is the story in which the scribes and take Jesus 29 00:02:32.770 --> 00:02:37.729 in order to test him. They're always doing this, right, they're always 30 00:02:37.729 --> 00:02:42.849 wanting to test Jesus, they're wanting to trap Jesus. They bring before him this woman who had been caught 32 00:02:46.599 --> 00:02:50.599 in adultery and they say in Verse Four, teacher, this woman has been 33 00:02:50.800 --> 00:02:53.360 caught in the act of adultery. Now in the law of now, in 34 00:02:53.479 --> 00:03:00.229 the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say 35 00:03:00.629 --> 00:03:05.469 this? They said to test him, that they might have some charge to 36 00:03:05.550 --> 00:03:09.110 bring against him. They go to test him, to entrap him. 45 00:03:53.039 --> 00:03:58.909 But, as usual, Jesus turns the tables and they find themselves being 46 00:03:59.110 --> 00:04:05.990 tested in a very personal way. Their hearts are being tested. Go ahead, 47 00:04:06.469 --> 00:04:13.939 who of you is willing to publicly admit that you are without sin? 48 00:04:14.060 --> 00:04:19.139 And there they are, testing themselves in their heart and they just decide to 49 00:04:19.220 --> 00:04:30.569 walk away. The Heart's power to condemn is very powerful. I'm going to read Verse Nineteen, 65 00:05:58.149 --> 00:06:02.470 for by this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our 66 00:06:02.509 --> 00:06:15.459 heart before him, reassure or persuade cause to believe our hearts before him. 67 00:06:17.379 --> 00:06:23.050 This is an appropriate moment for John to say this. Why? Well, 68 00:06:23.089 --> 00:06:27.129 because for several chapters now, John has, like Jesus, been sort of 69 00:06:27.329 --> 00:06:31.410 testing us. He's been putting the pressure on us and asking US some serious 70 00:06:31.449 --> 00:06:35.839 questions. He says we know 72 00:06:43.079 --> 00:06:47.310 that we have passed out of death into life because we love the brothers. 73 00:06:49.269 --> 00:06:54.670 The question end this then, is do you love the brothers? Do you love the body of Christ? Our hearts are like this. Either way, flat or sharp. Our consciences are like this. 128 00:11:28.799 --> 00:11:33.190 Our hearts need to be properly calibrated according to God's word. It's a whole nother story. Paul talks about this every now and then. They're not there anymore. Why aren't they there anymore? 173 00:15:30.029 --> 00:15:33.950 Well, because there's no water there.
